Making Time for Everything That Matters

The moment I woke up this morning, I knew that it was going to be a good day. I’ve been having a lot of good days, lately, but this one was just a little different… I woke up 30-minutes earlier than normal, got ready for work while listening to my favourite radio show, had time to make a hot and healthy breakfast, and arrived at work right on time. I don’t really know what it was about today but I just had this extra bounce in my step and couldn’t stop smiling, which is a feeling that I’ve been lacking for quite a while. And, as the day went on, things just kind of got progressively better.

Since it’s been so humid the past few weeks, I was looking forward to logging some miles on the treadmill in the gym’s air-conditioned Cardio Cinema after work, but realized midday that we were experiencing some unseasonably cool weather. So, I brought my gym bag in from the car and decided to just change clothes before I left the office so that I could hit the trail down by the river for a long outdoor run… And, wouldn't you know, that’s right about the time I heard from Lambit, who asked if I would be free to meet up this evening for an impromptu mid-week date!

Well, there was no way that I was going to pass up the opportunity to spend some quality time with my incredible guy, so the wheels in my head immediately started churning... I quickly realized that an outdoor run wasn’t realistic because of the travel time it would take to get to and from a safe running location (my neighbourhood is quite small and borders a very busy road which is undergoing construction) and the gym would require added time in the car, as well, so I almost decided to scrap my workout altogether. The thought of doing so didn’t exactly make me happy but it was obvious that my options were limited.

And that’s when I realized that, if I could get home and on the treadmill by “X” time- and if I ran just a little faster than usual, I could still jump in the shower by “Y” time and be on the road by “Z” time- which would give me plenty of time to meet Lambit for dinner and a movie! I know that may all sound pretty extreme but I’ve been so dedicated to my workouts, since getting back into the swing of things 2 weeks ago, that I really didn’t want to forsake one thing for another. So, I’m really glad that I was able to think things through and figure out a way to have my cake and eat it, too (figuratively speaking, of course!).
