Daddy-Daughter Day

After creating this blog and posting the first two entries, I took some time to sit down and enjoy lunch and then let my food settle before jumping into my workout. Unlike last Saturday, I decided not to run today because my right knee has been a little stiff and I didn't want to be in pain during my bike ride with Lambit tomorrow afternoon. So, instead, I chose to do the entire 55 minutes of the Biggest Loser Last Chance Workout DVD and coded it as "strength training" in my MyFitnessPal (MFP) tracker. It's really a combination of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) cardio moves and weights but the calorie burn would have been entirely too high/inaccurate if I had tried to categorize it as simply high or low "aerobics."

My Dad arrived at my house not long after my workout and that's when the real fun began.
My garbage disposal has been on the fritz for the last week or so and, thankfully, he offered to help me install the replacement that I'd purchased from Lowe's. It only took us an hour to switch them out and I'm pretty sure that I could do it again all on my own, if I had to. That's the great thing about working along-side my Dad: he takes the time to explain what he's doing and makes complicated tasks appear simpler. Once that was all taken care of, we went out for dinner and finally settled on a hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant which wasn't half bad. The food wasn't exactly "diet friendly," but I was mindful and only ate a small portion.

It was really great to spend some quality time with my Dad today because, since he retired last March, I don't get to see him nearly as often as I used to or would like. I got him caught up on how things are going with work and school, filled him in on my new diet and workout plan- and even shared with him that my scale showed a 3lb loss this morning... And he got me up to speed with how he and my Mom have been spending their retirement, talked about some of the home improvements they've been doing and have planned for their two homes, and shared some updates with me about my brothers. It's a shame that his visit was so short but I'm grateful for any amount of time we can share together!
